More work at Castle Cannon

in #work6 years ago

So the idea is to chop the left-hand side of the fireplace out (It's obscured by the plastic sadly) with the cutter. Now dear reader, brainless Pete thought it was a brilliant idea to stand behind the plastic so as to minimise the dust. Fortunately, one of the workmen came running in the house, tore me off a strip, and pointed out what a stupidly dangerous thing I was doing. I waited and on Saturday we covered everything with plastic and just Went for it took me longer than I thought with a mixture of cutting and hammering with a lump hammer and a chisel. The dust produced was horrendous! You could literally shovel it up. It'll take weeks to clear.

One of the Double Glazing guys fitting the patio doors. It's been a nightmare, to be honest, it has taken two weeks and it's still not finished. I'm waiting for them to replace a window with clear glass in the bathroom, a replacement glass in the porch and to take all the rubbish away.

New 6" FT fence panels going in. You wouldn't believe it but that post in the middle of the picture was 6"FT. The Fence guy was not happy when it took him nearly an hour to dig it out by hand.

Fence panels waiting to be installed at the top of the garden.

What a day, it's a nice idea to have all the Tradesmen on the job all at once but the 'brew' making was relentless especially as the Double Glazing gang only drank coffee and the Fence crew only drank tea. #Charlie (The dog) was driven nuts by all the activity. Sadly for him, offering the workman one of his toys in exchange for having a go with the circular saw wasn't happening. :-D

Idiotic question from another bloke (who despises, doesn't understand and refuses to do any DIY) - why was it so idiotic to attack the fireplace from behind the plastic ? Is plastic flammable ?

So the cutter is basically a big angle grinder, it creates a bit of a vortex. Imagine standing inside a plastic bag where the air is being sucked out. The walls of the bag start to be sucked inwards towards that nice spinning blade. Hey, presto grinder leaps out of one's hand cutting important parts off you.

Blimey, looks like it was all go! We need windows in the next few years - not looking forward to that!

There's still more work to be done.

Don't have them done when it's cold like we did. TBF there's not much mess or damage, however, (For us) having all the required window frames, glass, parts, oh, and a skip would be helpful. They've still not finished and we're into the third week now.

I don’t think I can afford to have them done all at once so will be done in stages. Probably not the most efficient way but there we go. :S

You're looking at around £5K (I paid less) However, for all I know you may live in a greenhouse? LOL
