Ain' Nothing To It, but To Just Do It!

Have you ever had a job that mentally and physically just kicks your butt?

I cut grass for a certain company, who will go unnamed to protect the innocent. Let’s just say that this company can generally save you a lot of dollars. Part of my job duties is to pick up garbage before I commence cutting so as not to leave shredded debris everywhere. Apparently, places of business do not think highly of landscapes that resemble a piñata party. Unfortunately for @papa-pepper and me, the fine employees and patrons of these discount shopping establishments see fit to use the lawn areas as their personal trash can. It gets really old, real fast, seeing grown men and women not give-a-darn’ when it comes to picking up after themselves. I mean, really people? Have you no concern for your fellow man? I could tell you of countless stories of how slobberly (is that even a word?) and unthoughtful people can be. Perhaps I’ll start a series on my bizarre and infuriating people stories whilst doing maintenance on these stores. That is beyond the scope of this narrative, however.

There is one incident that happened recently that beautifully illustrates my point. I was picking up tons of garbage at a store in St. Louis, MO. I had just about cleaned up the lawn areas and was commencing to pick up garbage in the parking lot when out of my peripheral vision I see a bulging diaper come rolling my way. I looked up to see whence the object had cometh and found a young mom giving me an accusatory look of “what?” Well pardon my surprise, princess! I guess she expected me to be a little more grateful for her present. After all, she at least had the common decency to roll the soiled diaper up into a ball instead of serving it up open faced. “Ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it!” I breathed to myself with an incredulous smile and plopped the “gift” into my bucket.

Ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it.

When I am weary and ready to just call it a day, I find a little extra momentum to just do the next task in front of me, one small bit at a time. I find this momentum by quoting “Ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it!”

I know, I know. A double negative ain’t no good English. So, sorry to all the grammar police out there, but if it works, it works. That simple phrase pokes at my competitive side and challenges me to not give up just yet. Taking the challenge once again, I pick up one more piece of trash, plop it into my bucket and continue onto the next piece.

Ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it.

In many ways, getting started on Steemit has seemed like an equally daunting task. Granted, writing on Steemit is much more pleasant and there is considerably far less garbage. The thought of creating content that people cared to read seemed beyond my capabilities. It most likely still is, but I’m no longer going to let that fear hold me back.

Ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it.

Once, I heard a wise man say that when you start out blogging nobody cares about what you have to say, so you really have nothing to lose. If you write content that nobody cares about and nobody is paying attention to, the worst that can happen is nobody cares or pays attention. On the flip-side, by writing content that you care about, the practice of creating that content will gain you valuable experience by which your skills can be honed. If you stick to it, then eventually somebody somewhere might start to care about what you have to say. If enough somebodies start to care then you gain that coveted traction that all bloggers seek. That may or may not happen here, but hey, ain’t nothing to it, but to just do it!

That is a good slogan for those things and times in life when you encounter unpleasant situations that you just need to handle.

I hear ya bro!! Just do it and Steem on!!

Every time you tell me "Ain't nothing to it but just to do it" my life generally sucks for about the next hour or so... but at least we get it done!
