Origins: Death Pledge
Hmmmm. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
If someone came to you and asked if you would like to sign up for a "death pledge" would you eagerly jump on the opportunity?
Most likely, you would not.
The words are ominous sounding. Conjuring up images of suicide pacts and medieval oaths of fealty.
Yet, according to the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC), nearly 71% of Americans are currently signed up to at least one death pledge.
I’m talking about the word
It literally means “death pledge.”
Perhaps, if we started using more accurate translations of the words instead of the transliterations of them would-be borrowers would be more inclined to take pause over what exactly they were signing themselves up for.
I know I sure would have!
In one of my upcoming post on the American Dream becoming a Nightmare I will focus on how borrowing money with compounded interest rates (mortgage) has caused many a soul to suffer unnecessarily.
And now I know.
And so do you.
Thanks for Reading!
As Always,
Now that is a scary thought! Thanks for the translation. 🐓🐓
Good explanation!! It is for most until death do us part :((((((
