THE BOUNDARY

--For my late sister

I.

The more late into the night, the memories intertwined

on the white wall
the clean floors
the ceilings of the room
the windows
the doors
the bed

swarmed, all that had ever been uncovered
know something is not yet complete,
incomplete:

you, mom, father, childhood
houses, hugs, rice fields, caresses
yards, ketapang tree
marbles, kites, snakes
school, teacher, history, all the knowledge,
eye contact, love stories, teen,
adulthood, coitus,
smile, tears, joys,

but second by second
whispered, set boundaries
time to packing,
know something will loose,
drift away, decay, fade, melt, disappear

II.

A boundary
sharper than a razor blade
a silence
darker than a grave

slowly absorbs, sucks
like a God
like a big banyan tree
in the yard of the hometown
house
its big roots spread
gripping the ground
sucking the grass

and we have to give up:
something has broken
a face, became one, with the ground

then on the gravestones
after the flower was sown
after the final prayer
flapped
what left is just the feeling of annoyance
and also regret:
life is just bubbles of dates
become large, larger, and then disappeared
life is only the circles on the pond water
become large, larger, and then flat,
disappeared.

III.

Maybe all we need is just joy
after the land was mounded
and we went home
while secretly, we keep all the memories secret
(the kites, the field, the ketapang trees,
The hugs, the caresses, the gazes, the light laughter)

maybe
no need to remember
just walk down the road
silently

IV.

But we already noted
Our eyes have stared at each other
and we hoped:

a seed has already became buds
a joy that entered
into our life

a face bloomed
the house became bright
and we danced
in the yard, in the rice fields, in the back of the house
on the terrace, in the living room,
while thinking
it is the Sun
we have the Sun
