Making Little Boxes with Scrap

in #woodworking8 years ago (edited)

A while back I decided to use up my pile of scrap wood that had been stacked up outside my house. After thinking about what I could do with all the small pieces, I settled on making boxes. My work area at the time was the covered porch area in front of my rental--I didn't have a lot of space or tools, but I saw it as a challenge to see what I could make with what was available. The materials I used were local bug killed blue stained pine, some reclaimed redwood, newer redwood decking scrap, Plexiglas, and other various knots and scraps. The great photos were taken by my talented girlfriend @joleenwillis

I really liked all the blue stain in the pine, as well as the different knots, so I tried to pick out the best pieces for each box.

For the tops, I thought the raised shapes and knots looked interesting, plus they could be used to slide the lid off.

I hope this inspires you to save and use all those scraps you have laying around!
