Turning my labor into steem

I helped a friend at his awesome job, he takes down old barns and reuses the wood, he paid me with some old cedar posts and a few US $'s. I spent a day taking down an old shed trying to salvage as much old wood as I can for him. Quite an interesting job finding old junk and such forgotten and abandoned. It's very rewarding work not to mention a good workout. My payment was these old cedar posts from the farm.

I like resawing wood to use for projects. The best way to resaw old logs is with one of these bad boys.

Got an old Frick 00 saw mill in your backyard? unrefurbished ones go for 8k. I am not that lucky, but fortunate to have a 14" Grizzly band saw and I found this log mill that holds the logs in place on amazon, it's awesome for resawing wood using a bandsaw.

First you need to make two cuts using the log mill.

Once you have the first cut then turn the log 90 degrees and make the second cut using the log mill agian.

Now that you have the two cuts, you can use a fence to make the board cuts.

Once you have the boards cut you can place spacers in-between the boards to help with the drying. I love resawing my own wood and someday I would love to have a portable sawmill that can handle much bigger logs. This project was especially fun working with cedar.
