Herringbone Coffee Table
We have finally started working on making a top for the coffee table base that my parents gave to me last year.
I first wrote about this here.
The base is solid, and the idea is to make a base using a this sheet of plywood, then lay blocks of wood in a pattern on top.
The oak legs.
The plywood sheet.
The wood we're going to use for the top. This is the engineered bamboo we used for the master bedroom floor.
Finding the center of the plywood sheet. Once the pattern has been laid and fixed, we'll trim off the excess.
This will be a herringbone design, so a set square is a must to get the angles right.
Matching the 45 degree set square with the center line.
Playing around with what size to make the pieces of wood. The bamboo is 15 cm wide, so 4 cm or 5 cm sections? We opted for 5 cm in the end.
Making sure the design meets the center line. Once I had the basic design drawn out, the plywood was attached to the legs with wood screws.
The first blocks are cut!
I'll update when more progress is made.
Thanks for having a look, and hope you enjoy!
And how thick is going to be the top part?
Sorry, forgot to say. The plywood is 1 cm, and the bamboo is 1.5 cm, so 2.5 cm total.
