How to make Bevel woodcut?

A woodworker can make two kinds of angled cuts – a Mitre cut and a Bevel cut. A miter cut is an angle which is cut across the surface of the boards. In comparison, a bevel cut alters the slant of the edge of the plank. Woodworkers bevel sheets in the ends or along the lengths of plywood which gives rise to geometrical shapes by joining them. On other occasions, they bevel board perimeters entirely for decorative purposes.

When you are using hand tools, it is challenging to cut bevels with any extent of accuracy. Naturally, woodworkers prefer power tools like a router, compound miter saws, and table saws. Read on some woodcutting guide to be a pro in woodcutting and sawing related work.

Tools required

  • Clamps
  • Chamfer bit
  • Multipurpose or rotary tool
  • Radial arm saw
  • Compound miter saw
  • Push-stick
  • Protractor
  • Table saw

Caution warning

Please do not attempt to bevel the edges of solid planks by routing them, as it leads to uneven biting into the wood grain at the board end and chipping of the wood.

Procedure

  • Use a table saw to tilt a sheet or boards of plywood along the length. For this objective, you can adjust the blade angle.
  • Turn the angle regulation control on the instrument’s anterior to modify the blade angle until the arrow directs to the right angle. You might come across saw gauges that give inaccurate readings. To get the exact level, it is always better to confirm the blade’s rise using a protractor. You can also use a wood sample with a slop of the right angle. For safety precautions, make sure to unplug the saw while you are at the step.
  • Coordination of the fence to make the blade bend away from it. If you place it on the wrong side of the edge, the wood may tie up at the position where the chisel divides the table and cause the wood to rebound.
  • You have to calculate the cut’s width, starting from the fence to the blade’s farther end. Secure the wall firmly, and activate the saw. Now, use your hand to shove the board about three-fourths of the course through the edge. Use a push-stick to thrust it for the remaining path.
  • Bevel board has a radial arm saw or a compound miter saw at the tail end. Detach the nut for angle modification on the saw, and spin the blade till the arrow directs at the required angle. Then fasten the nut. Support the board against the fence of the saw, and use the saw blade to position the cut-line.
  • Switch on the saw to cut. You can either lower the compound miter saw blade or pull the radial arm saw blade to yourself.
  • To make bevel cuts along with the range of the lumber piece, take the help of a multipurpose or rotary tool equipped with a routing chip, in the absence of a table saw. Go for a routing bit with a chamfer style, which has the angle you require.
  • Use clamps to attach the board to a work table so that the end that you have to bevel is facing you. Finally, you have to hold the apparatus at one edge of the board and activate it. Thrust it against the board end and make steady and firm advancement towards the other edge. Move the machine in a way that ensures the bit to bite into the wood as it revolves.

If you are using a circular saw to make the bevel woodcut, you can alter the blade angle. The cut is not severer than making a square cut, but a stationary machine gives more accurate results.
