The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is a major tourist destination is known all over the world for its uniqueness, historical value, and great length. It was built by Chinese emperors, beginning as early as the 7th century BCE. It is made up of bricks, stones, tampered earth, wood, and some other materials. The Great Wall of China is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Petra
Petra is a Jordanian Marvel and finds itself enlisted among the Seven Wonders of the World. Petra has been nicknamed as the “Rose City” because of the stone color out of which it is carved. This ancient city dates back to 312 BC. The rock-cut architecture and the water conduit system are some of the notable features of this ancient city. Petra is also UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Christ the Redeemer
Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco styled statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and is regarded amongst the Seven Wonders of the World. It is a symbol of Christianity and the cultural icon of Brazil. It is 98 feet tall and weighs about 635 metric tons. It is located atop the 2300 feet tall Corcovado Mountain. Its construction was started in 1922 and was completed by 1931.
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a dream destination for millions of people across the globe and is enlisted in the Seven Wonders of the World. Machu Picchu is located in Peru’s Cusco Region of Machupicchu District. It was built by the Inca emperor Pachacuti as an estate at around 1450 AD. It was abandoned a century later during the Spanish Conquest.
It was discovered by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. Important structures of Machu Picchu include the Temple of the Sun, the Inti Watana, and the Room of the Three Windows. A lot of mysticism surrounds Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Chichen Itza
The Chichen Itza is an archaeological site. It is located in Mexico’s Yucatán State. It was built by the Mayan people around 600 AD. It exhibits a variety of architectural styles. It was one of the major cities of the Mayan world.
Colosseum
The Colosseum is located in Rome, Italy and is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is an oval-shaped amphitheater in the center of the city. It is the largest amphitheater in the world. The Colosseum is built of sand and concrete. It can host about 80,000 spectators. It was completed in 80 AD by Titus (emperor of the Flavian Dynasty).
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is located in India’s historic city of Agra. The ivory-white mausoleum of marble is a symbol of love. It is well known all across the globe for its stunning beauty. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Its construction was completed in 1648 AD. The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
Great Pyramid of Giza (Honorary Candidate)
The Great Pyramid of Giza is in El Giza, Egypt. It is the biggest and the oldest one among the three pyramids forming the Giza Pyramid Complex. It took 10 to 20 years to build it and was completed by around 2560 BC. It houses the tomb of Khufu, the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh.
