Why is a pretty girl usually insecure?

This statement sounds generic. Let me point out that it is not all pretty girls that are insecure. Insecurity is a sign of an inward lack of confidence or vulnerability to a threat. It's normal to feel inadequate sometimes after all, no one has it all or Is perfect and we all have one form of insecurity or the other but when it becomes a norm, then it's a problem that needs redress. Insecurity can make us look unattractive especially when we keep seeking reassurance and approval from people for virtually everything.

There are several reasons why a pretty girl could feel insecure but she has many pluses to her credit. Beauty is an advantage and could give her an edge. In a room full of plenty girls, it's easy to spot one with nice and appealing looks and features. In such instances, such person stands a chance of being picked or chosen first if good looks were a criterion. Being a pretty girl, you can receive attention for free while others are begging and going out of their way to attract it. You get people's love too for obvious reasons especially if you have commendable character too besides good looks.

There are several reasons though why a pretty person can become insecure. Some of them are:

1. When your attitudes don't match your pretty face. Before people can get to know you in person, they are first attracted to you probably by your looks. When they come close, they are sad to note that that's all you've got. No one walks around with an x-ray to see how good a person you are underneath. It would be a disappointment if you've got obvious character flaws and you're not making efforts towards change. Then the conjunction "but" would come to play. You hear people say she's pretty but her attitudes or character makes me sick or It's repelling.

2. If you don't have a working brain to complement the beauty. Especially when you're in a relationship, every man wants a woman who is not just a beauty but one who has what it takes to stimulate him mentally and contribute meaningfully to a conversation. Beauty with brains is an excellent combination and there's no man who wouldn't want that. He has business Issues, he's looking forward to sharing with you cos he knows you could fix the puzzle. He believes in your mental prowess and sagacity. No one is saying you must be a professor because you need to complement your good looks. I'm only saying that it's a big plus, having both.

3. You could be vulnerable and tagged an object of sex. There's an African proverb that says that when a woman has beauty and no brains, it is her private parts that will suffer the most. In other words, all she can offer is sex. That's already more than enough reason to be insecure because it isn't every time a man wants sex. There are times when what he needs is prayers, financial or moral support. You can't give what you don't have. You're only good for pictures and camera. You're a beautiful piece just good for display and show offs.

4. Expectations. When you are pretty, people's expectations from you triples. When I still was a class room teacher few years ago, I had some pretty kids in my class. Their names were always on my lips. Every time I teach, I couldn't help but call them to answer questions. I just expected them to know it even if no one else does. I could pardon others for misconduct, not these ones. I could as well forgive everyone else because they were part of the crime simply because I didn't want to punish them. It's a bad tag then when you are pretty but dirty, pretty but a fighter and nuisance, pretty but stubborn. It's enough insecurity.

So to every pretty girl out there, please be more than just looks. Beauty is like a container with correct packaging. These days, it's very easy to be pretty with good money, clothes, camera filters, body shapers and enhancers. It's all packaging and it is attractive. Work on content and don't  just be a container. Get informed of recent happenings around you. Get updated. Don't just watch Zee world and telemundos. Give attention to watching and listening to news too. Don't just go to salon to have a new hairdo weekly or monthly, check for your attitudes and manners and clean out the webs. Focus on being a better you all round. The world needs more than a pretty face.
