Btw does bitshares has the same requirement as steem fot the witness? Is the RAM usage lower since you have less content in the tx?

    Ram usage is less, true. But it's because its not using the same type of cache system. Bitshares doesn't have the same backup witness system though. Either your an active witness in the top 19-21 or your not producing any blocks at all.
