Since we became a witness, we received a lot of questions about the Steem Blockchain.
These questions are coming from veteran Steemians and newcomers alike.

What are the things to look for when voting for a witness?

Unfortunately, we cannot give you an exact answer on this one. This is something you'll have to decide for yourself. Ask yourself questions like: "Who do I trust with guarding my Steem/Vesting Shares?", "Who do I think makes useful contributions to the Steem ecosystem?", "Who is open about their intentions?", etc.
We can give you some general aspects to look for when deciding who to vote for as a witness:

• Technical ability to run, maintain and secure their witness server(s)
• Engagement with the community
• Openness and transparancy
• Adds value to the Steem ecosystem

How many witness votes do I have?

You can vote for up to 30 witnesses. At any time you can change your votes as you see fit. There's also the option to set someone else as a proxy. This means he/she will get to decide for you who your witness votes go to.

What happens when a witness you vote for stops being a witness?

If a witness you are voting for, stops being a witness (i.e. disables or doesn't maintain its server), that vote will go to waste. A vote that other witnesses could use to improve their ranking.

Some final thoughts

Steem is a dynamic ecosystem and so requires regular review of your witness votes. We'd suggest you review your votes a few times a year, or when big changes happen like a hard-fork for instance. By reading posts of witnesses, you can get at least a general idea on how they think about certain aspects you value.

As with voting on posts and comments, witness votes weigh more when cast by an account holding more SteemPower.
