Installing a new witness node for @blockbrothers

in #witness6 years ago

I spent the better part of today writing a new module for SteemTurbine. This will aid in properly configuring a witness node for the Steem blockchain. I also used this to setup the new witness node for @blockbrothers. The current nodes are running out of RAM and therefore we've ordered new servers from @privex. The new servers have double the amount of memory, so we hope they will last for the next few months.

The specs of the new servers are:

  • Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1275 v6 @ 3.80GHz
  • 64GB DDR4 ECC (2400MHz)
  • 2x 480GB SSD

Currently, the new node is syncing to the network and I'll enable it as soon as I deem it running stable.

I believe this year will be interesting for witnesses. There are a lot of newcomers lately, the Steem blockchain is growing rapidly in size, and we have a few hardforks coming up!

If you support us, don't forget to vote for @blockbrothers as witness. We invest in improving the Steem ecosystem and help keep the network running smoothly.

Steem on!

Me and my fellow blockbrothers are a witness as @blockbrothers. If you want to support us we would appreciate your vote here. Or you could choose to set us as your proxy.

Awesome! Much appreciated!

Would you mind writing an in depth guide on this topic. I come from a sysadmin background and I really want to run a witness. Will be cool if you can explain how you've set everything up and what kind of maintenance goes into writing a witness.

There are several tutorials already. I suggest you check out the blog of @someguy123 for that. When our witness toolkit SteemTurbine is ready, we’ll have a tutorial on how to use that.

Thanks sorry only saw this comment now. Will check out someguy123 and the witness toolkit. Btw how do people afford the server for a witness initially?

Btw what does it mean if you set a witness as your proxy on steemconnect?

You can proxy any account. That account will then be able to vote for witnesses in your name.

Uhhh, tricky. They should get a message everytime a witness is voted.
