RE: Meet our Witnesses - @aggroed

I havent been here even a week but I dont really understand why the flags exist .. in an anarchic system it leaves the door open for great abuse. Also like my mom always used to say, "If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all.", seems like having no flags would keep things more civil, then the only option is either upvote or ignore ...

Thanks for the interview, it opens my eyes more to the ecosystem here.

The flags are a way to stop people from abusing the reward system. If you flag someone its similar to an upvote, just the opposite way. The flagging exist because people disagree on reward distribution and that is normal and in itself, not a bad thing. The problem lies when you have a group of people start abusing the reward pool, tipping the scale in their favour at the expense of the rest of us. There is a limited quantity of steem available each day, and if someone is abusing the system and taking more, they are essentially taking some away from you

So when minnows flag an abuser it does no good, and in fact the perpetrator can turn and flag the minnow doing great damage. Is that right?
What happens when someone is flagged numerous times in one day by a swarm of users .. do they risk losing their account? If there is no administrator apart from witnesses, well does anything happen or can the perpetrator continue to game the system and reap huge awards daily? I see a few obvious examples already that everyone is talking about ... I think minnows should be able to group together to flag with more authority, like Swimmy in the kid's book ..
