The idea of SP delegations is that you let a project or another user have your SP in their wallets and use it to vote when they are curating.
For example: you have a small ammount of SP you received when you created your account, and initially the system also gave you a delegation of about 27 SP.
They did that to help you get started, once you have some SP you can think of delegating it.
