SP Holders: You Want Our Dust?
^ From Entropymag
Ourselves and a few other witnesses noticed that brand new witnesses have been getting approvals from big accounts by sending wallet messages asking for said approvals.
We won't single out those accounts here since we're not dicks. And we typically fucking love new witnesses.
100000% Return on Dust?
Wallet messages are typically 0.001 SBD transactions, otherwise known as "dust", that have a link or short message in the memo field. They're generally considered a form of begging.
Discussion
If this is the new way to get witness approvals from the major players, please let us all known exactly what sort of message you require.
Should it be upbeat? Should it call you "sir" or "ma'am"? Should it just include a link?
Those of us who bust our asses to support the Steem blockchain wouldn't mind the extra second of work a wallet message will take. We can spare the dust if that's what it takes for us to aid in the full achievement of the Steem blockchain's potential.

Amen!
Glad you bring this up and hopefully we get some answers.
I think everyone wants to know if this is how campaigning for votes should go. Are wallet messages needed to introduce a witness to a voter? Hey, let's find out from the SP holders.
I wouldn't expect a response.
Yeah, I don't expect those large account holders are reading this blog :p
You two read it. Hoping more goes into your witness choice than a pile of dust.
Feel free to send me .001 and find out :p. It's tough cause so many amazing people to choose from. My votes are full, and it's really hard to remove any on my list to make space for new witnesses.. they'll have to do A LOT.
So many amazingly qualified over acheivers in the running
I won't bother since I know you can't possibly re-assess your list now that you're preparing to attend Steemfest. You're probably busy purchasing those tiny toothpaste tubes and buying ziplocks.
Man have started three times a reply and i dont know how to do it without sounding awry.
I have been a big proponent of small witnesses alliances and stuff, but now i think that not even that is enough.
I don't check the witness list anymore It mades me sad to see i get more votes everyday and the number aside of my name goes higher.
Maybe the people with the power to decide is not aware of what is important and what not.
Something i realized is that the more public and likable and the simpler the task you do the better the results in the new witness contests.
Install condenser, make a trail, don't be controversial, do videos smiling that is what it seems to work.
Do what you love doing, if that doesn't work make a decision, that is my new approach, steemit should be fun, if it is not there is no sense on it
You're a great guy and witness who talks about nothing except positively contributing to Steem-based projects. Thats why you always have my support and vote.
Thanks man you know i think the same of you,
It is good to know that i might not have the support of the big and powerful but i have it from the good and the right which is a million times better!
What keeps me going is the thought that 1000 of 1 mv votes is exponentially stronger than a single 1000 mv vote that can be taken away on a whim.
I was thinking more of the street beggar type but that works.
Me too, but I didn't want to mock the real needy people of this cruel world. So a cartoon will do just fine.
Good point there.
In the game of witness politics, you spam or you loose. It seems most users don't know what witnesses are or they vote one time and then stop caring.
People are lazy and I notice myself that I want to review my votes and then postpone it. But having someone with no technical skill and doing nothing for the network getting big votes just because they asked is discouraging it best.
You pretty much just nailed what I was thinking.

Yes, and how does that work exactly? we send 0.001 SBD to a witness and ask them for an upvote? Is that it? Is this what this is for? I'm so lost, I've had a head ache for hours, I don't think my brain's at full capacity lol
No, this is what some witnesses do to get the approval (which is called a vote as well) of the whales. Instead of getting natural support for their service, they are begging for it. It's confusing and nonsensical.
Ok. I think I need to read the FAQ again, I don't remember what a Witness does or is.
But yeah, it does sound nonsensical.
A witness is a person or group who run a server (computer) which processes Steem blockchain segments called "blocks". In one "block" there are several transactions including votes, replies, posts, wallet transactions, follows, etc. Witnesses are "elected" when people vote for them. The top 20 witnesses help make decisions about the Steem blockchain aside from their block-processing duties.
You can follow the guide in my signature (bottom of my post) to vote for any witness you like.
There are about 100 active witnesses but only the most voted 50 appear in the list on the Steemit site. This post is about the fact that some whales are casting votes for witnesses based on those witnesses begging them in wallet messages rather than based on legitimate participation for the betterment of the Steem blockchain.
Ok, I get it. So a Witness who explains why they should be voted for, who posts to everyone so that he or she can be voted upon is legit. But a Witness who bypasses all the work that other Witnesses do and don't prove their worth as a Witness, only gain high votes because they sucked up to a Whale, that's not legit. I get why it shouldn't be allowed; it's not fair to the Witnesses who play fair.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head. While we can't tell anyone how to vote, a witness vote is meant to be support for those who help better the blockchain.
Cool. Thanks for all the helpful info.
