Yet Another Mutual Aid Society

STEEMGRANT

This is the second of a series of posts regarding my proposals to enhance the STEEM community in a manner that is in line with the concept of Mutual Aid Societies (MAS), and one direction in which I will direct the STEEMPOWER (STMP) gained as a witness.

Businesses provide goods and services to people in a society. Often, the cost of starting a business is prohibitive, due to lack of capital or ability to obtain a loan.
Blockchain technology has allowed for a new type of loan to emerge, one that spreads the risk across a large number of investors by allowing for micro-payments that do not have the same overhead and fees as traditional loans.

Loans are not the only method to increase the capital flow of small businesses. Often, small business grants are available from governmental entities.

What are the consequences of accepting such funds? Stipulations are made as to the manner in which the grant monies can be used and often require a type of acquiescence and
obedience to the State. This unquestioning mindset is unhealthy to a truly free society.

What are the alternatives?

I propose to use the STEEM protocol to realize another MAS by providing a number of grants to small businesses.
