The love of wisdom is the most important treasure that a man can have, the sapiential books teach, because with this love the correct decisions are made and the divine mysteries are understood. Wisdom is that hidden treasure for which men have to venture, assuming all the difficulties that this science presents.
But beyond these metaphysical issues, the sapiential books take this wisdom to a more practical field, leaving valuable advice to achieve true happiness and blessedness. And about this, is what the Book of Proverbs written by King Solomon is mostly about; this wise King, illuminated by God, wrote this book with the purpose of accumulating in a single text all the wisdom of his time for the benefit of future generations.
And among the practical teachings that Solomon taught is this wise proverb: "It is safer to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than to confront a fool caught in foolishness" Proverbs 17:12. In other words, what Salomon in his wisdom advised is that there is nothing worse than meeting a crazy person at the wrong time and in the wrong place because the consequences are unpredictable and very destructive. This is why stability and equanimity, that is, the gift of fear of God, is so important for men. Following a fool in his foolishness is the most inadvisable thing there is.
And the truth of this proverb can be proven in the story of how Moses freed the Hebrew people from the slavery in Egypt. Moses encountered the madness of Pharaoh, and in front of the signs and wonders performed by the prophet, Pharaoh did not give in in the slightest, oppressing the Hebrews even more, demanding unacceptable efforts from them. The Bible ends this story by explaining that Pharaoh paid with his life his madness by drowning in the Red Sea.
