My Take

The event is very personal and the attendees are people looking to have a great time. The idea is to go there ready to indulge because the event is like a giant party. Stellenbosch remains an epicentre of wine production in South Africa and South Africa is the 7th largest wine producer in the world.

From Cape Town, one gets to soak in the magnificent views as the car drives on winding roads. There are so many wine estates in this stretch of land and each looks unique. I arrived at the event around 2pm and the grounds were already buzzing with activity. There were producers, exporters and countless wine lovers from every corner of the globe. There was live music that changed the entire mood of the place and there were wine companies in booths displaying their finest wines. The event provided bottomless wine, a host of fun activities and great food.

Some of the region's best wine producers leave their amazing wine estates in a bid to celebrate a successful harvest period. They all convene here to showcase their collection, meet some new contacts as well as enjoy a weekend out in the grounds. Clearly, the event has gathered adherents from far and wide because there were hundreds of attendees each with a glass of wine. I started with tasting the roses and boy, were they great!

Since I had too many wines to taste, I had to make use of the spittoons at first because I did not want to get wine drunk without finding some favorites. I visited so many stands including Waterford Estate, Spier Wine Farm and Simonsig among other great companies. I also got to taste some food and snacks like boerewors and burgers. After recording some wines and talking to some producers, it was time to enjoy the event.

We sat on the lush grass and got to listen to live music from an incredible Afrikaans band and some local artists. I got to make some new friends who told me about all the great places I could visit. Locals always have the information on all the great places that a visitor should go to. This event was very eye opening and coming from an area that does not produce wine, you can imagine how fascinated I was. It was an escape from the city life.

We got to engage in some competitive and fun activities like grape stomping and barrel rolling. Grape stomping was the most fun activity because it involved taking off one's shoes and jumping into a barrel with grapes and then stomping them. The group that produced the most wine won a few bottles of wine. You never knew who you would be stomping grapes next to but you would surely become acquaintances after that fun activity. We traded stories with people from Australia, Germany and South Africa. We took of our shoes and sat on the grass as we sipped some sparklings and toasted to making more amazing memories.

This would be an interesting event to attend with your significant other too. You can drink all the wine that you can and it can be a safe escape from everything else. It is definitely a Valentine's day idea. For food and wine lovers.

Looks fun. There is another festival coming that I can't attend, but maybe in 2019!!

Yes. You can also plan to tour the western cape yourself. :)

I will casually suggest it to my better half and see what happens. Plan for later in the year.
