Windows 10 May 2019 Update can also be installed with less than 32GB of storage

in #windows5 years ago

In April, on the upcoming Windows10 May 2019 Update (1903) Microsoft updated the hardware requirements page. It was Windows 10's first change, the specifications of which have stayed the same since its 2015 summer debut. In particular, the new update needs at least 32 GB storage for both 32 and 64-bit versions, while the first requires 16 GB of storage, the second requires 20 GB of storage.

At this time, Microsoft has released a further clarification on how the new requirements will be applied: the storage space of 32 GB is only needed for the new systems that will be distributed by Microsoft's OEM partners, and not for the computers that have already installed Windows 10 and where you want to upgrade. However, it was previously believed that the new requirements would have prevented the installation of May 2019 Update on machines already in use with less than 32 GB of storage, thus remaining on Windows 10 1809. That's not accurate.

Microsoft indicated that "PCs that do not fulfill the current disk space demands will continue to receive updates and will bring about the same disk space for the 1903 version as opposed to the prior update." In other words, it is now possible for anyone with a Windows 10 system to update to May 2019. We don't understand what's going to happen in the future when Windows 10 space demands are growing, with Microsoft being able to take advantage of the fresh demands to prevent installation on older computers.

The fresh Microsoft directives have been updated due to a new function defined in English Reserved Storage, which devotes approximately 7 GB of disk room (which will therefore be unusable) to downloading and installing new updates, or to store basic, temporary, or system cache apps. The objective is to make the use of the system more fluid and responsive with everyday activities, ensuring that critical functions can always have access to storage.

On all new PCs that will be marketed with Windows 10 May 2019 Update, Reserved Storage will be active by default, so the minimum 32 GB application will be crucial for these systems.
