What Steemit is For Me

in #win10sbd7 years ago (edited)

I stumbled upon Steemit after my partner and I started looking into cryptocurrencies as an alternate to the 9-5, work for someone else all day, pull your hair out because you don't agree with your boss lifestyle. We have been trying to break out into our own businesses, but sometimes that just seems impossible.

I know, I know @looftee wants us to branch out of the money aspect of Steemit in these posts, and I am getting there I PROMISE!

When Steemit was first explained to me, it seemed to be an online site for writers that also paid out in cryptocurrency. Neat, I am trying to use cryptocurrencies myself. But, am I a writer? Not in the least. At least I wasn't before Steemit. (I still don't consider myself a "writer" but I do enjoy myself now, read more!)

It took me 4 months to really get on and start using Steemit. I was convinced that A) I was NOT a writer and B) I was NOT a financial-crypto-guru. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of FAQ and help trails to guide new users. In fact, that is the most inspiring part of the whole site; the COMMUNITY of users that are dedicated to not just Steemit's survival, but also the well being and mental health of it's community.

I have met other users that are like-minded. I have made friends that are completely different. I have read inspirational posts from financial analysts. I have tasted other cultures, visited other countries, celebrated foreign festivals and danced in the streets of cities that have not even been created yet. All from my kitchen table.

What does Steemit mean to me? It means that I have a community of like-minded users at my fingertips that are not just around for the retweets and likes. They are there for ME. Instead of thinking: "No, I can't do that. I'm not a writer." or "No, I can't do that. I'm not a photographer." I now think: "Well, I should give that a try. If I get lost I can always post a question and SOMEONE will have an answer."

And that, my friends, is the game changer. Here on Steemit we strive to BETTER OTHER PEOPLE, INCLUDING OURSELVES. There is a big wide world out there. We need to be sharing it!

Thank you to all those out there who have made my Steemit experience great. Even if you never realized it.
And thank you to @loftee who is reminding us that the world out there is worth more than money.

Until next time,
@jennswall
