Last year in November, I joined a protest against the killing of big cat, Avni, which was sanctioned by Minister of forests of that state in India, Maharashtra where that tigress resided. Here is why that killing of Avni was unfair and many of us protested, the problem was not with Avni who was a 5 year old tigress nursing her 10 month cubs.

Avni was killed taking the help of a ruthless wildlife animal hunter named Asgar Ali, the reason stated was that the tigress, assigned name T1 had killed 13 humans. She was accused to be a maneater!! … However, this was far from the truth. The humans who were killed, were killed by the tigress maybe because they encroached on her territory and she was protecting her young cubs. This poor tigress was not a maneater, when autopsy was done on her , it was found out that she had no food for a week, and even then never choose to hunt humans.

The right procedure to deal with such an eventuality, would have been to monitor Avni, tell the locals to not venture into Avni’s territory and these officials killed her!!

The back of the scene actual reason for Avni’s killing is probably because this forest official gave forest land around where Avni resided to real estate and other companies and plan was to eliminate Anvi. The land was given far below market rate as well, forest land was given because private land was costly.

So, wildlife lover’s protested. Avni was killed ruthlessly, it was possible for the team to have tranquilized the tigress and take her off. But she was shot when she was going somewhere at night as she was shot at the back, and she was not even tranquilized and so, she must have suffered pain when she was killed):

I have no idea what happened to her cubs(: … its with very great risk and danger that a tigress leaves her cubs alone unguarded, she generally does that to hunt and get food for her cubs and herself. This is atrocious that a mother tiger was killed without a thought of her two cubs): … there is a possibility that without knowing how to hunt they probably would have died out of starvation or have ben hunted by other animals. It’s possible that out of desperate hunger those cubs can choose to attack humans if they have no choice for they looking for food.

The reason such conflicts of wild animals happen with humans, in India atleast is because forest land has reduced and humans have been allowed to build a habitat around on the forest edge which is stupid. Other than forest dwellers who are accustomed to live around the forest, other population should not be allowed to build a human habitat in the area. And for money forest land has been given to companies with a tigress being killed for the convenience of a corporate company.

Tiger is India’s National animal as well, and killing of Avni was a National shame.

On the positive side there are people like Michael in South africa who keeps injured tiger like Ozzy at his home and cares for them, treats them like a civilised creature that deserves love as well.

And watch this clip from the movie two brothers. I know tigers are wild animals, but they have a role to play in the forest and are beautiful cats as well, we can’t eliminate tiger population, let them live in the forests and let us not venture encroaching on their territory or hunt them down, its painful. This is the same message from two brothers movie, just see how loving and playful tiger cubs are and tigers too have some emotions, infact, it almost feels that they have more heart than humans who kill them for money and plain dominance.

Avni is just one such poor tigeress, there have been many tigers who were killed by villagers): … and unfortunately it’s the people who have made the tigers refugees settling on the forest and destroying forest habitats. Anyway.
