The Pheasant - November 17, 2019 @goldenoakfarm
We have a pheasant farm about 2 miles away, maybe less as the crow flies. So we usually see pheasants in the autumn, as they stock them around here.
There were originally 2 of them and a female, earlier this season. This one has been around because he has plenty of GMO corn in the neighbor’s field.
They are pretty things, but it’s sad they are so helpless when released. Every now and then we see one that’s makes it through winter, but not at all often.
They are beautiful birds. Why are they released? When you post birds use the tag #featheredfriends which is created by @melinda010100. : )
They raise them to stock them in the autumn for hunting. Same as trout, we have a hatchery near us and they stock the little river near us. Seems to me like shooting fish in a barrel....Very sporting....
I once knew someone who released pheasants to shoot them. I'm guessing that is why these don't last the winter. Looks like your guy has found some nice cover.
Beautiful shots.
They raise lots of pheasants in my area, too. I feel the same as you about the poor things. Must be rather like hunting chickens.
