It seems that everything came earlier this year.

Everything is already colorful, magical and alive. Everything, but the field elms are still naked. It is deciduous tree that you can find in the wilderness of Dalmatia. And new leaves start to come later than flowers on any other tree around. That's why they look kinda scary in this time of year.

The field elm or ulmus minor can live for a very, very long time.

And I don't talk about long time period such as a hundred, two or five hundreds years. There are field elms older than a thousand years. And it does look scary, but it also looks beautiful. They plant them along the streets because they provide very nice shade. That's why you can see a lot of these elms by the road in the cities and in parks.

The bark of this tree is dark grey or brown.

As the tree gets older, the bark get more rough. But the ivy loves that bark. So you will see on many places how the ivy hugs the elm. I am not sure does the ivy makes damage to the elm?!

We don't have much of these elms, but they definitely fit into environment.

That's the magic about the elms. You surprise when you see a funny shaped trunk and, sometimes, you can't take your eyes of it.

And they just started to flower.

Down on the macro shot you'll see a very young bud. Later in the spring, they will turn brown. Then, the leaves will start to come out. They will be elliptical shaped, up to 10 centimeters long and up to 4 centimeters wide.
