How to write a good whitepaper for your ICO in 15 steps

in #whitepaper6 years ago

As the interest in Blockchain technology continues to grow, the demand for whitepapers keeps increasing day by day. Many entrepreneurs across the world are trying to raise funds using the technique called Initial Coin Offering (ICO). Since it is still in the initial phase, the industry has established some of its very own ICO rules and one of them insists upon the creation of a special document, called the white paper. Every project that gets initiated must start with the process of whitepaper documentation which will help the readers understand the merits of the company. Today we will talk about the correct way of documentation.

  • Title

Design a catchy headline which is bound to capture the reader’s attention. Make it very crisp and precise. The title could be accompanied with the project logo.

  • Table of Content/Index

Before you proceed forward to the next step, make sure you add an Index table to list out the details discussed in the document and their respective page numbers. This will help the readers to easily jump to the particular section they are looking for.

  • Abstract

Usually, the function of Abstract is to provide a synopsis for the whitepaper in a short way. It should address what we are talking about in the whitepaper. This will help potential investors and clients to read the abstract first before proceeding further.

  • Introduction

The Introduction part talks about the industry being targeted and shares specific details about the project. Essential facts and figures must be added to encourage your readers to read further. The introduction part must be relevant to the entire document. Giving additional information will help the readers understand the urgency of the situation.

  • Problem Statement

This is a vital section of the whitepaper. This should contain the details about the problem that the whitepaper aims to find a solution for. The Problem statement should be concise and clear, not overly exhaustive.

  • Challenges faced in the current economy

This section is connected to the aforementioned Problem statement. However, this segment is more expansive and should present the market analysis of that particular industry as this is an important aspect of a successful ICO.

  • History/Background

It is linked to the problem statement as this section must contain details about the Industry and how the problems have been plaguing the industry/economy for a while. Statistical figures can be added to give the readers much clarity. Most importantly this should explain the trajectory of the industry as well as the problems faced by the consumers and their complications and requirements.

  • Solution

Presenting a solution is a tricky part as it should contain a distinct clarification. This section will give the vision, not just sell the product. It must explain what the solution does for the user rather than any specific features or functionalities. Apart from a generic solution, this provides the best practices and implementations to be considered.

  • Benefits/Advantages

The benefits segment will do more than just discuss the benefits. It provides the business case and the basis behind it. This part will allow the reader to feel compelled to find a solution what the whitepaper describes and the merits behind it.

  • Technological architecture

This segment will usually provide the technological aspect behind the solution and also gives an extensive graphical representation of the framework being used.

  • Token issue details

If you are issuing Tokens, this section is paramount to the framing of the whitepaper. This must contain the details of the tokens minted and mined. This will help the users of the token to get a better input on the usage of these tokens and their cryptocurrency value.

  • Usage of funds allocated

This is linked to the above section. Fund collection is important for the ICO. It is equally important to explain in depth about the funds that have been allocated for different sections of the development.

  • Roadmap

A complete and concrete roadmap will offer the readers a wider perspective about the necessary steps taken in an order to initiate the project.

  • Team behind the project

A critical aspect of the whitepaper is to mention the crew involved in this project. The main person behind the project, the developers and the rest of the team behind the technology development should be mentioned here in this section.

  • Bibliography

Last but not the least, provide a list of references that you used for the creation of whitepaper. Please ensure that the references you used were authenticated and not pure fabrication.
