Welcome to the third edition of Whisky Club - Tasting. Today with our special guest from Loretto/Kentucky.

Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky 

Today I decided to present you a Bourbon Whisky from Kentucky. Special about this Whisky is that it is produced in the worlds oldest distillery. While maturing the casks are moved always daily. The label is printed and swaged by hand. The producers use corn, red fall wheat and barley for the whisky. Another special thing is that they use the old-style sour-mash method. That means every new batch fermentation starts by using a little of the last. (source: Label Maker's Mark)

What means Bourbon Whisky?  

A Bourbon Whisky has at least 51 % corn in the mash. Often you also use rye or barley. The casks need to be new and chared. The wood for the cask needs to be from a white american oak. Almost every distillery which produces Bourbon Whiksy is in Kentucky or Tennesse. [1]

Ingredients

Around 70 % of corn and 30 % barley and red fall wheat.

Taste

The Makers' Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon smells very powerful like honey, butterscotch and vanilla. Also you might smell some cocoa or flowers.

It tastes very sweet like taffy and nuts. In the aftermath it tastes a bit smoky but very balmy. The greasy structure flatters the palate.

Optic

The Maker's Mark has an amber color which comes from the different incredients like red fall wheat. 

Price for one bottle with 0.7 litres is around $ 27.  

The Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky defines how a good Bourbon needs to taste. You can say it is a benchmark for other competitors.
