Whisky Review: PORT CHARLOTTE SCOTTISH BARLEY, from Bruichladdich!
Just when you think you’ve found your whisky for life, another one comes along and steals your fancy!
After honing in on the Islay single malt age statement expressions of Lagavulin 16 and other such remarkable spirits, I thought that I had settled on more mellow, seasoned veterans of peaty, time-roasted, earthy warmth. I was wrong.
Though Lagavulin’s trademark line is “time takes out the fire but leaves in the warmth,” I have found today that the punch of wild, youthful yet wisened Islay fire is something that I also need in a whisky!
Enter: Bruichladdich’s Port Charlotte Scottish Barley. As my friend @nicksikorski calls it, I give this “fuckin’ rocket fuel from Islay,” peaty little face-puncher at least an 8 out of 10.
I hope you’ll enjoy my brief video whisky review, and leave your impressions in the comments!

I love Lagavulin myself. Always has been one of my favorite. Islay Whiskys are the best! I will try the Port CHarlotte, Thanks for the recommendation! And if I may recommend something myself to every Whisky fan: laphroaig quarter cask. A smokey and very tastefully Islay malt for a good price, (you probably already know ;-)). Slàinte
Quarter Cask is awesome. Well agreed! I actually prefer it to the 10 year in some ways. You’re right, though, Lagavulin is hard to beat! If you try the Port Charlotte do let me know what you think!
Will do!
Okay, so that particular scotch is not available in my area. But...they did have another from the same company...heavily peated, and smokey, and orange, and hints of coffee and something else that I forgot. It was aged 10 years I believe.
I would have snapped a few pictures of it, but to be honest, the overly eager guy at the liquor store was really creepin' me out. Like a used car salesman. Get the hell off me man, let me just look, and stop breathing through your mouth like that!
The price tag scared me away for today, so I settled for a less expensive brand of single malt, with smokey, orange, and hints of something else I forget. I'll save it for the weekend, so work life will still be bearable for me on a Tuesday 😊
As you can tell, I am not yet a true scotch connoisseur but I play one on Steemit. Rum-an-coke it is boys! It's my "made it through Monday at work" drink!
Thank you @kafkanarchy84 for exposing us to new alcohol that will PUNCH us in the fucking face. And still, we line up for it Haha!!
Haha. I hate dudes like that on the sales floor. Lemme fuckin’ look man, and go sweep the floor or somethin’!
Ah, man, I’m not a connoisseur either. Just a dude that loves fine-ass Scotch whiskies. Interested to hear about the single malt you got. Rum-an-coke is a mighty fine drink as well!
Ouuu great one. I like whisky also.I will do macallan and Hibiki review soon.
Hibiki is a really good whisky. I’ll checkout your review ;-). If you ask me though; I think hibiki has become a bit overpriced... I have stashed 2 bottles hibiki 12 year old over a year ago and they are worth 3 times the price today! Good to collect, pricey to drink..
Yes it is great one, but little bit to pricey. I think the first price was just right :) well ok 20% +
Wow great friend, I like the peaket to keep my sugar, please send it for me my dear friend, haha. I don't know any taste about drink, but from your post and description I believe that it would be great. Sweet and lovely, wish you great time with your favorite drink. Enjoy your time.
Thank you, Jay. Cheers to you and I hope all is well in Assam. 🙏
Not a comment about whisky, but it's just struck me what a wonderful example this whole 'micro-assemblage' is for illustrating the wonderful complexities of globalisation...
There you are in Japan reviewing Scottish whisky, here I am in, not that far from Scotland, watching the reviews.
Then I got to thinking about the exchange rate: I guess if you're going to import that stuff to Japan it'd cost a fortune, then again earning money on steemit negates that to an extent, then again (again)...the whole system COULD crash and burn.
If that happens I could certainly use a whisky.
Hahah. Well said.
Thanks, and thanks for the resteem btw, I just noted it in my feed. Now I have to get off this platform for a few hours and write something (It's way too easy to get distracted on here).
i never tasted whiskey but you re tempting me to do it,Great job mate
Hahah! Alright!
Great review Kafka! I just want to try a shot of that tonight! Not sure if it is available in my area, but I am gonna check it out. This sounds like a whiskey that I would like, because even though I like the older stuff, I like a little more of that bite. This one sounds delicious. Good stuff for sure @kafanarchy84!
Thanks, @jbcoin. I actually dove a little too deep into the well last night. Oof! My head is not happy with me today but damn. It was just too tasty. Hope you can find it!
I may have to save up a little but for it, but I think that it will be worth it! Thank you for all of the support man! I enjoy trying new whiskey, wherever I can. I'm on "vp power lockdown" so forgive my lack of an upvote this morning. I'd slide ya a silver coin if I could 😊 @kafkanarchy84
goddammit, another whisky I have to buy. I have to stop reading/watching your reviews. Then again, when I see "whisky" in the title I can't resist.
Hey man! Thanks for the tag, however you got my name wrong (don't worry I'm used to it: in France people used to unconsciously call me Nicolas Sarkozy...).
So, you finished the bottle?!
Fuck! That must’ve been the whisky talkin’. I know your name, just a typo. No, still got about half left! Had a terribly rough fucking morning after this video and the “sampling” that followed, though 😅
I like your post.Your idea was truely awesome and it really helped me
