Thank you for pointing out Anouk!

When @anouk.nox pointed out this contest I immediately found it a great idea to participate. I am not the best photoshopper, and certainly not the most creative at the moment. Manipulation of photos is also a part that I have never been so immersed in ... but all in all I could not let this opportunity pass. And also because I actually knew almost immediately which historical painting I want to use for this contest.

"The birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli. A work he painted around 1485 on behalf of one of the most famous Italian families. The family "De Medici"

The Birth of Venus is a painting by the Italian painter Sandro Botticelli. It hangs in the Uffizi gallery in the Italian city of Florence.

The painting is made with tempera on canvas and measures 172.5 cm by 278.5 cm. It depicts the goddess Venus who rises from the sea as a mature woman, as described in Greek mythology. However, the name of the work is not entirely in accordance with the event depicted on it, since according to legend Venus would have been born from the sea foam. However, this image shows her arrival in Cyprus, standing on a shell. There are also several references to Ovid's Metamorphoses and Fasti and to Angelo Poliziano's "Verses".

This painting was commissioned by Lorenzo de 'Medici for Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici's Villa di Castello, around 1483 or earlier. Some specialists claim, however, that the Venus intended for Pierfrancesco and the work mentioned by Giorgio Vasari in his Vite would be two different paintings, one of which would have been lost. Others think that it would be an ode to the great love of Giuliano di Piero de 'Medici, Simonetta Vespucci.

In classical times a shell was a metaphor for a vagina.

The pose of Botticelli's Venus is reminiscent of the Venus de Medici, a marble sculpture from classical antiquity in the Medici collection, which Botticelli had studied.

But why this painting?

In the time that I now look around Steemit, that I have sometimes had a personal conversation with Carl, and that I am looking at the posts that Carl shares, with all personal photos and personal bits from and about his own life and personality, a few things have become clear to me.

@carlgnash is a person who carries a lot of love with him, he loves the nature, the life and especially the natural life. That fits well with the image I have for myself of a Venus.

Carl is, as far as I can judge, a sincere person, never to be miserable to help, gives compliments, has humor and lives with you.

And is that ultimately not exactly what the world of the gods stands for in our imagination?

Sort:

hahaha another fun entry. I love this contest. I totally suck at these things myself, as I don't have any program that I can use for this.. photoshop and I don't mix, unfortunately. I guess @carlgnash will enjoy this one too ! :)

This is an amazing entry! Carl fits perfectly in the painting!

This is a great entry! Such an obvious choice for a painting now that I think of it. It really works perfectly with that pose LOL And thanks for those really sweet words! Making me blush over here, and that is not easy to do LOL

Much love - Carl
