Manchester City are the favourite to sign David Alaba

The list of clubs that have announced their interest in Bayern Munich's Austrian defender David Alaba is long, and now another giant club has reportedly taken the next step and contacted Alaba's representatives.

Pep Guardiola was supposed to be a big fan of the 28-year-old Austrian, and therefore Manchester City have now contacted Alaba's agent, according to AS. Alaba's contract expires this summer and all indications are that he will not extend his contract with Bayern, and will therefore be possible to pick up on a free transfer.

Therefore, it is conceivable that Bayern saw an advantage in selling Alaba this January in an attempt to get some money for the defender. Guardiola trained Alaba in Bayern, and will reportedly not mind being reunited with the player.

Real Madrid have long looked like the favorites to get hold of Alaba, but according to the Spanish media Marca, "Los Blancos" will not make an offer for the Austrian, as they are betting on being able to pick him up for free this summer.
