Steemit: The lazy whale

in #whales9 years ago (edited)

In the midst of self-voting, vote selling, and many other 'interesting' aspects of the Steem Blockchain, let me introduce to you another type of whale....

Sleeping giants

There are so many things to do with your Steem Power! In no particular order we have:

  • Find some 'good' content and stick a vote on it

  • Delegate it to a friend to give them a boost

  • Delegate it to a bid-bot to boost your ROI

  • Vote your own blogs

  • Down-vote your own blogs

What you can also do is sit on it, light a cigar, and just wait....

The following is a list of accounts that meet the criteria:

  • Own over 100,000 Steem Power
  • Have 0 Steem Power delegated
  • Have not voted in the past week

Accounts with over 100,000 Steem Power which have not voted in the past week (or longer) and have 0 delegated Steem Power (ordered by date of last vote)

Actually, only 9 of these 31 accounts have voted in 2017!

What are the reasons for this? Is this classed as rotting Steem Power?

I understand why some of the accounts ( @steemit) may not have voted, but what's the deal with the rest?

Page-Break-7.png

What's happening?

Now I sincerely hope that these accounts still have access to their password, and are not owned by the deceased, but apart from the odd few, why have they not interacted?

Is the content on the Steem Blockchain really that bad?

The grand total of vested Steem Power that has not produced a vote in the past week or longer is 87,927,247 - Almost 88 million Steem Power!

This seems like such a waste - especially if the right projects were picked to delegate to, or vote upon.

This list goes on and has to be better than the SP just lying around. Come on you guys!

Questions

So, why do we think this is the case?

Does anyone know who owns these accounts? (ha! shhhh i'm sure)

Is this not just a total waste of Steem Power?

Any more clues, ideas?

Thanks for reading!

Asher

This is just a waste of steem power. can anyone contact these folk?

Steemit needs to delegate some of that power, even better, do a power share based on activity during a period of time....that would be awesome.

I love posts like these, this is business intelligence in action. You have looked to the data and extracted a meaningful list of people on which action of some type can be taken. Action as in who ever knows these accounts should contact them.
#bisteemit

Steem Power that isn't use is a lost only to their owner and not a net lost.

If anyone was the only person to vote during a 30 day period then their vote would be worth the entire 30 day reward pool.

Ahh, so it's not wasted as a whole. Just not being used by this person.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Wish I could find one of these guys who'd delegate some to me (for a better rate than the other known services!)

Thanks Paula!

Yes I'm finding that these fairly simple queries can be related to by much of the community.

I can't remember who had the delegation share idea on a recent @stellabelle post (maybe @creatr ) but sharing SP amongst many active/keen/honest members would be really great to see.

Thanks for your support 😁

It's absolutely a waste and I suspect there may be the odd deceased owner sadly. I would imagine some of the others are investment accounts not interested in posting or commenting. Hopefully this post will awaken a few of these guys and get them to engage with the community.

We can only hope. This is only for accounts over 100k SP, there are many more with 50k+ not getting involved too!

More nifty statistics here Asher! Thanks!

I suppose really we need to take the steemit account out, as that seems to be like the bank of Steem. Ned was asked about it, and he basically said it would be used for marketing and salaries and the like, so not much chance or seeing any of that delegated.

That still leaves us with 16million in dead steem to look at. Well over $1000 worth of voting power.

The interested thing would be if Steem is flowing in or out of these accounts, and if so where and with whom. You can be active moving money around without ever posting, replying or voting.

Cheers Mike.

Yeah we can check the ins and outs, I only checked delegations and leases.

Investors are fine, but surely they'd like to build their investment quicker?!

Sometimes I wish steemit has a !PING function like bbm so we can ping those sleeping whales so they'll wake up.

I see a lot of great contents one steemit go extremely undervalued and some whales will post one or two lines and boom $100 within 20 minutes.

Yes, they built their community (as you or me would have) last year - I'm ok with with this, it's natural.

Do not forget Steemitri The Mannequin ;-)

down vote your own blogs

Seriously though, that is a lot of power just sitting there... even if we only had to look at 50% of it. Aye

Haha 😁 Good spot

Yep, just gimme 10/20k and I'll show you how to to do it!

I think that reward pool have the same amount of steem to distribute every day and other users do that anyway.

Do you mean we are reaching a fixed distribution limit each day?

It's a waste, but not unique to steem.

I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of bitcoin sitting around in wallets whose passwords have been long forgotten, and big question in the crypto community how to manage this "wealth", if you will.

The best thing we can do is try and get the owners of those accounts back on steem!

Get in line maan!
