The World Cup – So Far…
Dear Friends,
So the group stages are over and the round of 16 have come to a close.
This world cup has indeed been full of surprises and twists and turns.. How do they plan it that way? Almost like a Hollywood movie! The favourites, 2nd Favourites, pass winners, pass pass winners all get the boot haha! Well, I for one am happy with that result as I sit neutral enjoying the beautiful game… well sort of neutral, I cheered for the Socceroos (Home Team!!) and South Korea and Japan but they all faltered – kudos to Japan for getting to the last 16.. Shame how they ended being knocked out though..
On that subject, Belgium is one of the favourites (according to my bookie…) okay I don’t have a bookie but a mate who knows a mate’s mate said that their mate was told by a mate that his bookie put Belgium as a dark horse to win the world cup – so far so right.. Let’s see what happens in the coming games..
So how did we end up here?
Round of Last 16:
France 4 – 3 Argentina
Uruguay 2 – 1 Portugal
Spain 1 – 1 Russia *Russia win 4-3 on Penalties
Croatia 1 – 1 Denmark *Croatia win 3-2 on Penalties
Brazil 2 – 0 Mexico
Belgium 3 – 2 Japan
Sweden 1 – 0 Switzerland
Colombia 1 – 1 England *England win 4-3 on Penalties
I have to say each game a great game! Exciting and almost all teams this world cup has gone for the throat – no sitting back and all that boring stuff – keep that going and keep that going till the finals! Based off the Round of 16, there are the fixtures for the Quarter Finals:
Quarter Finals:
Uruguay VS France
Brazil VS Belgium
Sweden VS England
Russia VS Croatia
The beautiful game is set to premier the next stage and these are our players – who will remain after this round?
