Embracing the Big Island of Hawaii - On Mountain road at foothills of Moaula Ka'u Cloud Rest

It was such a beautiful sunny day today combined with nice cool Hawaiian Trade Winds. I decided to take a much needed break with my faithful companion "Little Black Bear. She and I jumped in my all wheel drive Jeep and headed for the "High Road" that runs all the way from Naalehu to Pahala . This road takes you to the side road that takes you to Moaula Ka'u Cloud Rest where a majority of the famous Kau Coffee is grown. It is one of the most peaceful and scenic drives in my opinion in the Kau district. As you go up the mountain, you can see the entire city of Naalehu, the ocean , the flat top mountain ranges, farms, horses, cows, old growth trees, wildflowers, the occasional hiker and very few other vehicles. Every time I travel this road, I am transported to a state of complete peace, serenity and humble gratitude. Just being on this road,gives me "chicken skin" as I can feel the presence of the ancient spirits that still guard this sacred area.

Normally I would drive up to the coffee farms and visit with my friend Manuel Marques at his coffee farm. However, today, I decided to simply stay on the main road and take photos along the way so I might give you a taste of why I love this area and this Island so much. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I loved being there.
