Wemark- Giving content creators the right over their content.

in #wemark6 years ago

With the boom of Internet, the need to stand out amongst the general crowd has increased – websites , applications , blogs are few of the things that are trying to capture their customers attention not only with the help of good content. And good content often involves usage of pictures that are not only attractive but relevant to the topic at hand. In fact according to Twitter and Facebook, tweets and posts with pictures drive more engagement and generate more response from the audience.
All of this has led to an increase in number of content marketplace like shutterstock, adobe photos, bigstock and many more but there is a common problem that exists with these applications- the original creator of the content the photographer receives only up to 15% of the revenue that is gained through his photographs and along with this the photographer loses rights over their work. Apart from this if the rightful creator of the content wants to reach a large customer base not only will it be a tedious process, it is also an expensive one
Wemark is the solution to the problem.
CONCEPT:
Wemark aims to provide the content creators with a platform where they can upload their pictures and the authority to license it as well as keep up to 85 % of the revenue that will be generated through their content and at the same time the creator doesn’t have to give up his or her rights on the same. All of this will be taking place on the blockchain ecosystem.
WORKING:
The user creates his account; there they upload the picture which is available for viewing.
When a potential customer likes a picture for use, an agreement is signed between the user and the customer which includes term of lease, fees to be paid to the platform and other terms and conditions. After the agreement is electronically signed, its terms will be deployed on blockchain and no terms or condition can be changed by one party only. The only way to change the terms of agreement is when all the parties agree.
There is no “middlemen” and this helps in creation of a transparent system which works in everyone’s interest.
For the agreement to take place , Wemark Tokens will be needed. In the current scenario, the photographers will get paid in tokens and convert it into fiat cash whereas customers can use their debit/credit cards and convert the money into tokens.

HOW WILL THE PLATFORM SEARCH FOR THE IMAGES THAT CUSTOMER WANTS?
The platform will automatically extract image tag from the metadata if exists, and will automatically add new tags using advanced computer vision algorithms.
The creator will also be able to add more tags manually or edit the automatically generated ones. Those will be subject to review and approval.
FEATURES:
• Photographers get to keep rights to their content and at the same time they control the pricing of their pictures.
• Enforcement of Smart Contracts makes sure that the system is trustless as no one can manipulate the system.
• The system will help the photographers to identify pictures that violate copyright laws or pictures that are being used post the expiry of license and other license violations.
• The prices will be low as no middleman will be involved.
• They are planning to develop and integrate technology that will help in searching pictures according to their specific needs- e.g. “Old Men on Cycle”.

VERDICT:
This application is making the process of sharing, leasing and usage of stock images an easy process –for both, the photographer and the customer. Apart from making it an easy process, they are also making it a trustless one- with the help of smart contracts and the main idea underneath the project is a noble one- to give the creators of content the right over their own content and generate profits off it.
Apart from this they have even made the payment process easy by giving the customers the option to pay via their debit/ credit card. They even have a prototype at place which enables photographers to upload and view pictures. As of now customers can only view and not buy the photographs.
Another strength of this project is that it is been backed up by a really strong advisors like Lars Perkin who is the former CEO and Founder @Picasa, Lee Torrents who is the Marketplace Director @ Canva,Michael Lesser and Karen Sachs who have been Fomer VP and Director of Content @Shutterstock and many more. Being backed by a really strong advisory team shows that the project is a trustable one.
The only downside is that the team is planning to conduct various stages of ico along with development which didn’t prove to be a good idea for an ico like DFNITY.
All of this makes this project - one with interesting and easy concept which if executed properly will be a hit.
