Pop can challenge! Can you TIG weld two cans together ?

in #welding7 years ago

This is a test of your skill and patients.
To give you an idea on thickness a pop can is 0.005" thick which is about the same thickness as a human hair so you've got to watch your heat otherwise you'll just blow holes in the can. You need to do this with a TIG welder and keep your power low. We did it with our power setting at around 50 amps AC and we used a foot pedal for control so we could ease in and out if things were getting a little to hot. The filler rod we used which is the smallest we had in the shop at the time was 3/32" diameter and the material was EA4043. It took us three attempts to get dialled in and I don't think the results look to bad. Give it a try and let us know how you do. Good luck. 👍
