hey @ophiel welcome to Steem... im good friend with Amber so of course I had to show up to welcome you myself....
There are lots of things about Steem that can be confusing, but as many will tell you, with time things get easier and next thing you know, if you stick to it all of the sudden this social experiment becomes not only a focus in your life, but a second home.
We tend to spend quite a bit of time on Discord, its a chat platform that many dub as Steem's backstage pass... I think it best, specially at the beginning to get to know other Steemians, and make those alliances that will make all the difference in more ways than one.

There are certainly aspects that have presented their fair share of challenges, however, as you said, time is making it easier. I haven't quite figured out editing d.tube videos, but realize already that it is FAR SUPERIOR to the youtube platform.
