How to Eat Fruit to Lose Weight

A fruit diet, a fruit fast, or just adding fruit to your diet in lieu of snacks are all ways to lose weight with fruit. Fruit is low in calories and has a sweet taste that can often fool you into thinking that you're eating something much sweeter and more decadent. Fruit is also full of soluble fiber. Not only does soluble fiber adhere to cholesterol in the blood to flush it out, but it also promotes healthy digestion. Add fruit to your diet for noticeable weight loos in a healthy and delicious way.

Step 1

Decide on what type of fruit diet you'll participate in. With a fruit fast, you'll eat nothing but fruit for three days, before slowly introducing other foods into your diet. This can help flush the system and remove toxins from the body. A fruit diet means you'll substitute one or two meals per day with fruit, then eat one or two normal, sensible meals per day. Or you could cut out sweets and snacks by adding fruit instead as another way to lose weight.

Step 2

Purchase a variety of fruit. The key to eating fruit to lose weight is to always have a large variety of fruits available so you don't get bored and stray to sugary snacks. Try to buy some of your favorite varieties, then resolve to buy one fruit you've never tried each time you go to the grocery store. You might find fruits that you never knew you loved. Try farmer's markets and ethnic markets for fresh fruits you can try.

Step 3

Keep your digestive system healthy by only consuming one type of fruit each hour. If you are having oranges for breakfast, feel free to eat as many oranges and similar citrus fruit as you wish to become full, but wait an hour to digest all of that fruit before trying another variety. Eating too many varieties of fruit too quickly can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Step 4

Find new ways to serve fruit so you can enjoy it for more than just a snack. The Mayo Clinic recommends grilling fruit for savory desserts, adding fruit to a spinach salad or dipping them in fat free yogurt to jazz them up and make them more appealing for snacks and meals.

Drink only water while on a fruit diet, whether it is a fast or just a healthy addition to your current diet. Avoid fruit juices unless you know that they are 100 percent juice; most juices are cocktails loaded with sugar. Water will work with the fruit to flush your body and keep your digestive system working smoothly and effectively.
