St.Petersburg (almost) abandoned territories

this time my #WednesdayWalk challenge (hold by @tattoodjay) is devoted to an intresting historical part of my city, St.Petersburg, which you may count industrial / abandoned... depending on point of view.
added location to the steemit map: [//]:# (!steemitworldmap 59.895282 lat 30.312384 long Варшавская железная дорога d3scr)

This is a piece of St. Petersburg's map, circa 1914-1931. I indicated our approximate route in green color. For those who decide to follow our route: the streets are Malaya Mitrofanievskaya, Staro-obryadcheskaya, Tashkentskaya, and the railways of the former Warsaw railroad. In fact, studying old maps is a great pleasure! Here I learn what institutions were located earlier on this locations... Much of what was part of the citylife, has long and irrevocably gone (cause the life itself has changed!). For example, there are no more slaughterhouses (now meat enters the city in the form of frozen carcasses). There are no such wonderful things as "gardens allocated for feeding" of the Russian imperial army regiments. Moscow Victory Park and Izmailovsky Park at the very bottom of the map, for ex, were created at the site of the former airfield, defunkt in 1930s.

Это кусок карты С.Петербурга, образца 1914-1931 годов. Зеленым цветом я указал наш примерный маршрут. Для тех, кто решит последовать и пройти тем же маршрутом: это улицы Малая Митрофаньевская, Старообрядческая, Ташкентская, и железно-дорожные пути бывшей Варшавской дороги. На самом деле, изучать старые карты -- очень большое удовольствие! Отсюда я узнаю, какие заведения располагались раньше на этой земле... Многое из того, что составляло жизнь города, давно и безвозвратно ушло. Например, больше нет скотобоен (теперь мясо поступает в город в виде мороженых туш). Нет таких замечательных штук, как "огороды, выделенные для прокорма" армейских полков российской императорской армии. Московский парк победы и Измайловский парк, например, в самой нижней части карты -- получились на месте аэродрома, бывшего там до 1930-х годов.

Orange color (the entire right side of the map) highlights the industrial zone, Putilovsky plant, and everything else. Moscow Gate, Ligovsky prospekt and Moskovsky prospekt (called Balkansky prospekt before 1917) still occupy their place today, as on the map. The Resurrection Novodevichy Convent, on the right side of this map (you can see at some pictures) and its necropolis -- the richest cemetery in St. Petersburg until 1917 -- is a place of interest definitely worth come and see (@galenkp), I will make a separate post or two in the future.

Оранжевым цветом (вся правая часть карты) выделена индустриальная зона, Путиловский завод, и все прочее. Московские Ворота, Лиговский проспект и Московский проспект (до 1917 года он носил название Балканский проспект) по-прежнему занимают свое место на карте. Воскресенский Новодевичий монастырь, в правой части этой карты (его видно на некоторых снимках) и его некрополь -- самое богатое кладбище в Петербурге до 1917 года -- предмет, которому я обязательно посвящу один или два поста, когда-нибудь в будущем.

What is so precious with this piece of abandoned land, overgrown with weeds? Can you imagine any reason at all? (Hint: it is located not in suburbs! It is quite near the historical center of the city, tho ofc it is not the center. In the beginning of XIX century, when the Moscow Triumph Gate was built, they marked the border of the city, and served as an outpost ). Ok ... in my opinion, the fact is that often we love something not necessarily because it is so good, but because it is not like what we do not like. When the whole city will be built up with business centers and shopping malls, I will miss these places .. ALREADY NOT ENOUGH !!!

Что такого уж такого ценного в этом заброшенном клочке земли, заросшем сорняками? Вы можете себе представить какую-либо причину? (Подсказка: это не пригород, а совсем недалеко от исторического центра города... хотя ясное дело и не самый центр. В начале XIX века, когда были построены Московские Триумфальные ворота, они обозначали границу город и служил форпостом). Ок... по моему разумению, дело в том, что зачастую мы любим нечто не обязательно потому что оно такое уж хорошее, а потому что оно не такое как то, что мы не любим. Когда весь город будет застроен бизнес-центрами и торговыми моллами, мне будет нехватать таких мест.. УЖЕ НЕ ХВАТАЕТ!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention my teammates: @tatdt and Herr Fortunatov, all equipped with telephoto lens. It really was a tele-walk!

Looking at this picture, you will think that somewhere there should be a railway... and you will be absolutely right!

When there are a lot of wagons around, and the rails, and the smell of tar ... it smells like the road, the far lands where these wagons have been ... history is in the air. I think they might radiate something like this into space around...

Когда вокруг много-много вагонов, и рельсы, и запах дёгтя... пахнет дорогой, дальними краями, где побывали эти вагоны... в воздухе витает история. Я думаю, они излучают что-то такое в пространство...

Many wagons! -- A lot of radiation around :)

Especially for us, someone made it so that we could photograph her smoking! :)

Cпециально для нас кто-то сделал так, чтобы мы смогли сфотографировать ее дымящей!

A very strange, unexpected, fresh and cool view of the main structure of this area (in the background, only the upper part is visible) -- Triumphal Moscow Gate! (This story is waiting for its own separate story, believe me, I have something to show and tell!)

Офигенно странный, неожиданный, свежий и клёвый вид на главное сооружение этой местности (на заднем плане, видна только верхняя часть) -- Триумфальные Московские ворота! (эта история ждет своего отдельного рассказа, поверьте, у меня есть что показать и рассказать!)

There is a bridge here, and thanks to it, we did most of these captures (and of course, kudos to telephoto lenses). It is absolutely operational, not abandoned, trains often run here.

Здесь есть мост, и благодаря ему, мы сняли большинство из этих видов (ну и конечно, теле-объективам). Он абсолютно действующий, не заброшенный, поезда тут часто ходят.

By the way: does anyone guess what these things are for? It is an indispensable element of Soviet architecture, almost every house was decorated with elements like this? .. okay, I’ll tell you right away, not hoping for correct answer: these are flagholders for the (Soviet) flags that decorated all the houses on big (Soviet) holidays.

Кстати: кто-нибудь угадает, для чего предназначены эти штуки? это обязательный элемент советской архитектуры, этот элемент добавлялся на каждом доме. итак?.. ладно, подскажу сразу, не надеясь на правильный ответ: это держатели для (советских) флагов, которыми украшались все дома по большим (советским) праздникам.

обратите внимание на слово"околоток" на плакате. явно старорежимный пережиток, остался тут от прежних дней по недосмотру.

Thats a great wednesdaywalk ! .. from the time it is inbetween ww1 and ww2 .. a great architektural period in world history .. I really like that walk, all the locations merge together so nicely ^^

well, i think more or less it is all earlier, pre-1917, probably end of XIX - beginning of XX (counting out all the modern building). these red brick industrial shapes are very recognizable

I really like this red brick stone fashion .. during this times they were used nearly everywhere, must have been a real fashion of this time period.. but as far as I know this technique is as old as medievel times already .. lot of train station I have been in Poland and the Czech Republik also are build in this way
