Wednesday Walk - Make Me Smile - Milder Weather Brings Snowmen Snowanimals and Hoar Frost

in #wednesdaywalk5 years ago

We had a nice break from the cold weather with milder temperatures causing some melting of the snow - making for perfect snowman making weather!

Also with that milder weather we had some heavy fog which bought beautiful hoar frost!

My granddaughter asked me why they call it hoar frost (thinking it was horror frost) when it is so beautiful!
Here is what Wikipedia has to say about why it is called hoar frost -

The word hoar comes from an Old English adjective that means "showing signs of old age". In this context, it refers to the frost that makes trees and bushes look like white hair.

We are getting closer to the shortest day of the year - on the Winter Solstice Dec. 21st - so I'm still catching lots of the sunrises and sunsets (moon setting too!)

When we zoom in closer onto the moon we see all the details of the shadows in the craters -

When it got lighter we headed off for our walk and it looked like it would be an interesting sky with some of the colors of the sunrise still remaining!

Looking Like an Interesting Sky As We Head Off For Our Morning Walk

As we turned the corner we saw some heavier layers of cloud which did indeed make for an interesting sky line

The morning walk was shorter for we just headed down the road towards the pond, for there was lots of ice on the road going up the hill. That allowed me to capture the early light from the other direction going home and the interesting layered sky.

With some of the snow melting it was exposing the grass which bought the dear out to graze.

Up on the hill we saw the tracks of a big buck which must have already breed it's does and was roaming around looking for other unbreed females.

The evening walk bought another beautiful rather sublime sunset -

Oh! those snow people, somebody save them! I can feel their agony!! 😂 Awesome pictures @porters ;)

Oh, I just loved the moon and the spruce! The sunset wasn't too shabby either! I wish we had hoar frost here, it is so lovely. Our deer have disappeared as it is hunting season. They will return in January when it is over.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
