Wednesday Walk- A Memory Of Summer On A Cold Winter Day

On a cold and overcast winter day in the northeast, I can't help but yearn for warm clear spring and summer days. As I am rather small and petite and definitely not built to withstand the cold, I rarely find myself motivated to get out and walk around anywhere outside during winter. In order to best the winter blues I thought I would post some photos from a hike I took in August this past summer.

I spent around a hour wandering around this pretty wildlife preserve for a type of endangered butterfly. It is several square miles of trails through what was originally a turn of the century farm.

There are large areas of semi open meadows filled with the sounds of birds and small animals.

There are many different types of wildflowers with butterflies, honey bees as well as many other varied species of insects among the flowers. Controled burns are sometimes done to keep these areas as they are. If this is not done, trees and other larger plant life would take over. These controled burns are meant to mimic wild fires that would occasionally happen in nature from a lightning strike before this area was inhabited by people.

There are also lovely large tracks of wooded areas in this preserve.

Here you can see where water from a rather heavy storm streamed down the path. The running rain water left lines of plant debri in ripples across the trail.

This is one of my favorite spots on this trail to take a break and have a snack. I like to spend some time here reading while taking in the sounds of nature.
