Cats, Hornbills & Bunga Raya In Mural
So my traveling through states over 14 days which included the pre and post of the event... is done with. The bicycle race Le Tour De Langkawi, actually has One Stage A Day. That means the cyclists, wake up, have their breakfast, race something like over 100kms to the next destination, rest and Repeat!!! Except when they were in East Malaysia of course, where they had to fly in to Sabah, then on charted flight to Sarawak and back to West Malaysia to continue with the following stages.
So I only managed to get some walking done Pre and Post event which gave me a small window to explore. This #WednesdayWalk however, was really just me running out of the hotel to snap some pictures of the boat I spotted on the river but was pleasantly surprised with the murals.
The artist incorporated ethnic designs into his work representing, Cat City.
The wall separated the hotel from the Waterfront and was about 50 meters in length.
This is the whole graffiti. The body included the Hornbill which is Sarawak's National Bird, flowers as well as the warrior's shield.
Local food like Nasi Lemak, Laksa Sarawak, Ais Kacang, and some I'm still trying to figure out haha.
The natives in their costumes and I believe that's the boat at the bottom.
That skinny rod looks like The Sumpit/blowpipe which is a weapon.
Another graffiti of the Hornbill, this time with its wings spread out.
I love how he worked the traditional prints into all the graffiti.
And this was on the other side of the path I was standing on. What I had originally run out to take a picture of.
You could rent these to float on the river.
Same boat different angle. The last picture before the call came in to summon me back inside.
Just sharing the routes of the race in case you were curious. This is what I was part of from the 2nd to the 16th of February, 2020. Even though I had initially planned to explore at every stage, it wasn't possible. Perhaps, if I am part of it again next year, I'd be more prepared.
And that wraps up my #wednesdaywalk share, a challenge initiated by @tattoodjay. Swing on over to his page to find out how you can be part of it too.
