Lovely photos Lady Joan and Jaaay! You got a Dragonfly!
It is most likely the "Broad Scarlet" Crocothemis erythraea.

Regarding your proverb today; when you follow the tricks of @papilloncharity you will get dragonflies hahaha

Blessings to you guys!

Learn something new every day, thanks so much for giving this dragonfly it's official identification tag Stephen.

Agree with your interpretation on the proverb, almost tipped into that dam determined to capture a pic of this one.... You sure have a way with dragonfly photography.

Hahaha beware of over eagerness to get the shot Lady Joan.
Did I tell you that I slipped and fell in a couple of times already?
The good thing is that every time (thus far), I was able to flip the camera backwards to fall on the dry land!
Not a nice feeling to emerge wet and bedraggled hahaha.
Blessings!

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy, next time I will have to try timing for Autumn fall seeing as we never have that here on the coast.

Wow, that dragonfly looks sooo amazing ^^ .. you really got a beautiful shot there

Dragonfly is one thing we do have an abundance of, never been able to photograph.

Thank you for the pleasure of walking with you through this beautiful place.
Charming dogs.
Red dragonflies on green stalks look very impressive.

Dogs always make my day, the dragonfly actually sat still long enough for me to photograph without falling into the dam.

Such a nice walk @joanstewart! Dragon flies indeed are hard to capture, yours look great!

Patiently waiting for this one to settle, at long last I have captured one!

Great work!

Such happy memories for me in that area of Himeville. I spent all my holidays on the farm over the road called Inchgarth owned by the Forde family who were close friends with the Lunds who all ow the public to enjoy the lake named for their parents.
I went to an 80th birthday party recently held in the Autumnal shades of the trees surrounding the lake. A gorgeous memory.
Thank you for bringing this lovely place to my remembrance Joan with lovely pics and the dog 'people'!

We go up regularly, next time I must plan more into May/June, really would love to see the Autumn shades over the lakes.

Lund family have built a wonderful piece of paradise with such a variety of trees, the Spring flowers are stunning which is the time of the year we usually visit.

It looks so peaceful and calm there, its hard to believe that it would be dangerous in the surroundings. I used to hear stories about how dangerous South Africa and certainly when I went to J'borg for work many many years ago my local colleagues didn't let me go out on my own.

Out in the country you still find places to relax, working or visiting our cities one really has to have eyes in the back of you head.

Your colleagues kept you safe obviously knowing the dangers of the city, personally I think most cities offer dangerous areas, only local residents know where to go normally.

Beautiful post and another great Afrikan proverb. Why did you say it’s not safe to walk there? Just curious.

This area is safe, most areas in South Africa not so much, cities definitely not, always go with locals or in tour groups for safety.

When we walk in our parks or on our beaches we go down with at least three or four people added protection always helps.
