Rules for "Superwide Portraits"

in #weddingphotography7 years ago (edited)

It's not often you can use a 14mm for a portrait picture and get away with it.

Optional Text

SOME TIPS

  • Have a reason to use a 14mm... aka a huge scene or building you want to have in there.
  • Put the subjects right in the middle (Distortion on a body can be bad on a 14mm, primarily on edges)
  • If you're low and shooting up... have them lean over.
  • Give yourself some room on the edges to tilt and correct the photo in post process
  • Seperate from the background as much as you can because there is little normal depth of field. (or give up on the idea of a blurred background)

P.s. Rules are made to be broken... but do it sparingly.

Happy to hear what other rules you'd tend to give someone using a super wide lens for a portrait 12-20mm ... or even for a FishEye

Awesome use of a wide lens! Resteemed!

Well how about that!! Is this my first time resteemed? I think it may be... how fun!

I find very useful .Thanks for sharing @jarvie

very good advice, I have never had the opportunity to work with that lens but it shows its sharpness, good angulation a good nadir

Great post!!

thanks... it's been fun to post pictures and add in a few tips, Steemit is nice like that

Dang dude, nice lines! Way to keep it mostly straight that wide!

I've found that I'm really good at being Straight... been that way all my life even!

I got a 16-300mm tamron on my Canon T5i and it's super cool how it can do everything reasonably well. the only other lens I have is the canon 50mm STM for portraits.

That's a HUGE range... wow!!

On a t5i that is about 25mm right?

Also gotta love that 50mm! I still use mine all the time!

16mm goes up to about 25mm yes
