INDIAN WEDDING RITUALS :How Indians celebrate their wedding
I am a wedding photographer in India I have attended many Indian weddings of different cultures and religions so I thought why should I write about some Indian wedding .
Indian wedding means Big celebration, Luxury food ,Heavy jewelleries ,Bright and Colorful dresses, specially of Bride and Groom where groom wear Sherwani or kurta pajama in Marriage and bride wears heavy embroidery lehenga OR sarees.
Bride and groom families come together to decide where when and how to organize the wedding according to their resources, cultural and religions. Because Indian wedding organizing is a big process, especially Priest (Pandit ji) is called to decide when, WHERE,AND HOW the wedding is to be held according to shubh muhurat(BEST DATE) taken by Pandit Ji.
Indian Wedding goes for 3 days
First day a special Pooja ( prayer) done by priest at home Ganpati Puja to have a blessing of God for such a good opportunity they have and all things goes well by the blessing of God.
Haldi and Mahendi is also celebrate on this day
Haldi is turmeric powder paste which is applied on Bride and grooms face hands and legs by the relatives and family members, it is applied from ancient times because at that time there was not any cosmetic beauty products available so they use turmeric powder to bring some glow on face and other body parts so now its become a tradition and culture in every Hindu marriage.
Mahendi (PASTE MADE BY DRIED LEAVES OF HENNA PLANT)
It is also applied on second day on hands of bride and groom. Beautiful designs are made by experts on their hands (like tattoos) especially the names of both Bride and grooms are written on their hands bride name is written on groom's hand and groom name is written on bride's hands .
On First day Ring ceremony also takes place where both bride and groom Family comes together and have a ring ceremony celebration. Both families brings gifts sweets Jewelleries and other precious gifts for each other and confirm that they both family becomes one after this ceremony. Dance party food all goes for till late night especially in Punjabi families, North India.
Second day is the wedding day
It is the very big day for both bride and groom because at this day they both will become one after such a long process by taking some mutual vows given by priest( Pandit ji ).
The day start from groom house from where he rides up on female white horse with all the relatives by dancing on music of Band and goes to wedding venue.

Its a tradition in Indian wedding that groom always goes on female white horse to wedding venue
i also don't know exactly what's the reason behind it.
The groom site relatives are welcome with flowers and garland by the Bride side relatives and and Groom is taken on stage where he waits for bride .
Bride is dress up with a beautiful Lehenga , heavy jewellery and comes with his friends on stage to meet the groom you can have a view of some images of bride entry. After bride entry “JAi Mala”occasion is held where bride and groom welcome each with beautiful garland which means that they accept each other as a life partner in front of all family members relatives and friends and after that all family members and friends one by one come to stage to have a photo session by the wedding photographer and all other people who comes to visit this wedding have a luxury food which is organised by family.
If we talk about food there are different varieties of snacks desert and other luxurious food snacks we have Gol Gappe which is the most favourite of Indian ladies Gol gappa is very famous in India and it is called by different names in every state .You can have a view of the images of the Gol Gappas and other foods which is mainly found in Indian wedding I have taken some beautiful images.
After food the main event takes place “Phere “in which bride and groom will become as husband and wife legally . Under the guidance of Priest( Pandit Ji )they take seven steps around the Fire( hawan kund )with Every Step they Take take some PLEDGE and mutual vows that they accept each other as husband and wife and always be sharing there happy and sad moments with each other.
After that with “vidai” takes place which is the very emotional moment for bride family members because from now their daughter will leave their house and live entire life with her husband.
Now comes the third day Reception Party
This party is mostly organized by Groom family members where all family members comes together and give a blessings and wishes to bride and groom to have a wonderful life in future.
And have a late night party and food ,drinks. enjoy a lot with each other because this is the last day of wedding.
