WebDesign Cebu - Is Content Still King?

in #webdesign8 years ago

Whenever a new update comes out, seemingly changing the way that Google – and other search engines – do their work, it forces a complete overhaul of what search engine optimization means for the sake of efficiency.

With the constant changes coming into effect, one can’t help but ask – how relevant is content? Is it still king? Does the quality and quantity of my content matter more than my links? Can’t I have a content-light site that still remains extremely reputable, raking in the traffic versus all my local competitors?

The answer is varied, and requires a little bit more of an explanation than a simplistic yes or no.

Content is Still Royalty

Content isn’t necessarily king, but it remains part of the royal family, and plays more than just a glorified role of rule. There are other very important factors that cannot be ignored in favor of content – but without some content, and specifically good content, even those factors won’t always net you the SERP you’ll want.

For example, if you’re looking for clients who are only looking specifically for your brand or product, then you won’t need much content. But if you want to net the clients who are looking for unspecified solutions to their vague problems, then you will want content in order to be informative, helpful and relevant to their needs.

In that sense, content is still important. But there’s a little more to content now.

Less Can Be More

Good content trumps bad content. It’s a really simple formula. But when it’s expanded, it becomes a little more interesting – lots of good content trumps tons of bad content.

So yes, less can be more – and quality is more important than quantity – but yet again, this isn’t the final point. You need content, and you need a good amount of it. Daily, or at least weekly posts. But they need to be qualitative and original. If you’re simply posting waves of bad or spun content, you won’t get any kind of real boost to your search results because, frankly, you’re not really worth promoting over your competitors in that regard.

But if you only produce one good article or blog post once a month, then your competition will too quickly get ahead of you. Once again – you need a lot of good content, but you don’t have to force yourself to write too many posts in a week.

Consider Other Factors

Content may be king, but it’s not the only thing you have to worry about. Your search engine optimization hinges on the quality of your content, and the reputation your website/business has – as well as the quality of your link building, the intuitiveness of your website (your user interface, basically), and your web presence in general (how big is your company on social media? How many people are talking about you outside of your platforms/pages?).

Boosting all of this, however, all comes back to the content (aside from the web design). Growing a business online is a task without shortcuts. You just have to push through it, and it’s rarely anything other than hard work. But you can make it a little easier by knowing what it is that you have to do.
