Scary microbursts over my city - the harsh reality of climate change...

Also known as "rainy bomb", the micro-burst is probably one of the most dangerous natural phenomenons. It shows-up unexpectedly, without warning and pours enormous quantities of water over a region with a force about 20 megatons nuclear bomb!

And it's happening over my city - Skopje, Macedonia... This photo was captured recently from the nearby hill:

The strange thing is that the for the last couple of years, such outburst of weather oddities have increased in my country, which is know by it's temperate - all around climate. It is called "The land of the Sun" for obvious reasons, after all...

Back in my memories, the summers were hot, dry and only disturbed by occasional short afternoon showers. For me, pictures like these are warm, final reminders for our climate awareness:

So, what is microburst?

A microburst is a  localized column of sinking air (downdraft) within a thunderstorm  and is usually less than or equal to 2.5 miles in diameter. Microbursts  can cause extensive damage at the surface, and in some instances, can be  life-threatening. There are two primary types of microbursts: 1) wet  microbursts and 2) dry microbursts. Ignorance may be a bliss, but only for the shortsighted. We must start acting responsibly as a specie!
