King Baasha of Israel: But you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin. 1 Kings 16:2

God had made a pact with Israel at Sinai and through Moses gave to the israelites a commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me" Exodus 20:3.
But the First Book of Kings relates that after the division of Solomon's Kingdom in two, the kingdom of Israel submitted to idolatry due to the evil of its rulers, disobeying the Kingdom of Israel the first and main commandment; and since the disobedience to the first commandment brings the disobedience to all the others, this was the cause of many problems for the Israelites.
It was for this reason that the prophet Ahijah inspired by God predicted the fall of Jeroboam's dynasty when the king's wife came to visit him, and so it was, Jeroboam was succeeded by his son Nadab as King of Israel, but Baasha conspired against Nadab and murdered him, and so, this was the end of the dynasty of Jeroboam.
Baasha took over as king of Israel, and the Bible relates that Baasha was a greedy man who made sin a way of life. And God was thus as severe with Baasha as he was with Jeroboam, not to punish but to warn men of the consequences of choosing the evil path. Because, in the Bible, there is a universal law that cannot be avoided, the law of sowing and reaping: "For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7.
With these words the Bible relates, God addressed the prophet Jehu to admonish Baasha, King of Israel:
"I lifted you up from the dust and appointed you ruler over my people Israel, but you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to arouse my anger by their sins. So I am about to wipe out Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat" 1 Kings 16:2-3.
Basha's family was exterminated when Elah, Basha's son who was also king of Israel, was killed by Zimri.
