Drug War Stories: Ate in the Big Apple

in #war6 years ago

The sadest part of the drug war is how it turns otherwise law abiding third parties into criminals. Despite the worst efforts of liars and looters the drug war continues unabated. Perhaps it is time for a change. Former Federal Judge thinks so, doctor Carl Hart things so. What do you think?

2 prison "corrections" officers smuggled some weed into a jail after taking some bribes from some inmates friends. The inmates then sold the harmless substance that probably made people's incarcerations less inhumane and more tolerable. The article asserts the group planned the operation for a year and a half before starting.

The article rambles on about how the likely poorly paid plebians betrayed trust to the state and "potentially jeapardized the safety of staff and inmates," according to US attorney Richard P. Donoghue who sounds happy that the state will now actively harm these citizens for non violent conduct. The article didnt mention any actual harm done or victims who happened to be murdered or raped or assaulted or even stolen from by this conduct. Yet for some reason "society" or those who rule find cause for blame and punitive acts.

The only way to win the war on drugs is to increase human spirituality. The human spirit is more power than any drug AND that is what needs to be nourished with work, friendship, and family. These are things that matter.

any sort of contraband can get someone killed in jail, if someone got a joint and smoked it and then did not give the guy he got it from enough honeybuns he might catch a beating or worse right?

well why the hell would we send non violent people to such an unsafe place? Good use of resources? If that is the issue then don't have stupid contraband, why treat people like children and not let them make their own choices and expect them to keep that way when they out? Why not actually help people for all the lives and loot these interventions gobble up?

drugs ought to be legal but they probably still won't be allowed in jail

yea but much of the people in jails for using wouldnt be there, so there would be a lot less demand in the jail economy. And perhaps there would no longer be jails.

there would still be jails, drug prohibition surly increases the number of people who get incarcerated but many if not most of them are assholes who would be there anyhow for something else. A corner crack dealer wouldn't go legit if crack was legal, they would find some other criminal enterprise.

disagree i think most people would go legit if they could make more and safer money.

but would the crack store hire someone with a lengthy criminal record or a college graduate? Would that guy be able to beat Walmart's price without evading taxes?

total spam comment, people downvote these kinds of comments

Drugs are one of the biggest evils in the world.

yea so sad government chooses to pass laws no one follows instead of help people make their own decisions
