9/11

in #war6 years ago (edited)

It's the anniversary of 9/11.

This is within living memory so I'm sure everyone remembers, but just in case:

On September 11th, 2001 there were four airplanes hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists. Two of these were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC. The towers later collapsed.

Conspiracy theories aside, these attacks killed 2,996 people and injured over 6000.

These were horrible attacks and we should grieve for the people injured.

But our—and I am American, so I will use the collective pronoun, despite my position on the issue—response was far more horrible.

The War on Terror, the invasion of Afghanistan, the invasion of Iraq. In Iraq alone we murdered thousands of innocent people—INNOCENT PEOPLE. They did nothing wrong except to have the gall to be born in a country that we dislike. And for that, we murder them. We murder their children. We destroy their homes and communities. We sow the seeds of hatred that will live on in a new generation.

My friend @kafkanarchy84 posted about this event.

I am going to re-post two of the images from his post.

We need to end this. This has to stop. Does America repeat the mistakes of past empires and invade and kill everyone until we can't afford it anymore and collapse? Do we keep the hatred going so that the next generation hates us too and has just cause for attacking us back? Where does it end?

This has to stop!

I remember that day well and did a post also. Thank you for posting about 911. I do not believe another country attacked us (and that is not important as we all have our beliefs).

I do believe a lot of people were lost that day and the fact we remember them is important. So again thanks for this post.

And 16 years after the towers, the Americans have elected a president that bragged that he now has the biggest tower in New York (of course wrong) on the same day as the attack.

Who is dropping more bombs than anyone else in decades, while his country is officially in no war.

Sometimes you really wonder where the hate in many countries towards America comes from...

I had to let this post sit for a bit.

It seemed like the whole world grounded to a stop that day as everyone was glued to their TV watching the events unfold. I feel for everyone who lost family and friends that day. I feel for everyone who has lost family and friends since. Not just the Iraqis, but all the military personnel that was sent over there to do their job and never made it back.

There’s never winners in a war.
