It was founded in 12th century by the Gangsem sherpa Zangpo and still it remained undiscovered till 19th century. It is build at the cliff face of Lungnak , a major tributary. It holds a spiritual significance because of its design and isolated location. Phuktal is a Tibetan word which means "through caves". At the monastry the main focus is on the beliefs of Buddha culture- vasika, posadha and pravarna. This is a place of monks. It is the only monastery in India reachable by foot.

As the green water at the base attests, the well is no longer in use, but it has become a tourist place now. Moreover, one of the four sides of the Baori has a three-storied pavilion. Royal families sit in its jharokas and balconies. Also, some Bollywood and Hollywood movies have been shot here.

This archeological park is situated in Panchamahal district, Gujarat. In this park, there are lots of Jain and Hindu temples, mosques and other historical edifices. These temples are constructed in Nagara style of architecture. Most Indian travellers do not go beyond the demarcated path to the temples. The Jama Masjid located inside the park area is a fine example of of Hindu-Muslim architecture. You will gell to see temples from different centuries here. The most famous ruins of Champaner are the mosques, which are right in front of the Pavagadh station.
