in #wallet4 years ago (edited)

Ledger has had an increase in errors that are occurring on the backend since they have launched multiple updates in the last few weeks to patch and fight against potential exploits. It may be frustrating to run into errors, but don’t worry, we will walk you through the steps to fix the 6984 Ledger error. If you are running into more problems, check out our stories for Ledger solutions. Ledger Live Support does a great job at answering tickets, but due to the increased errors, the back-log time might force you to wait too long.

Introduction

Today we are going to go over the steps that you need to take if your Ledger Live is showing the 6984 error. These steps will help you resolve your 6984 error with your Ledger device and allow you to use your device without any interruptions.

Steps for simple fixes

Most of the Ledger Live issues can be resolve by updating Ledger Live application!

Here is a list of some common issues that may be the reason your device isn’t connecting correctly. However, if the problem continues, then we can explore other possibilities.
Step 1: Check Ledgers System Status to see if there are any known issues now.
Step 2: Close all other applications that you have opened, which include crypto wallets and ledger apps. Sometimes the system is getting overloaded with signals.
Step 3: Turn off any VPN’s that may be running and use Ledger Live.
Step 4: If you have a spare USB cable, then try and use that, as the cord may be damaged internally even if it doesn’t show outside wear.
Step 5: Use a different USB port on your computer; your port might not be responding correctly.
Step 6: Restart your computer, and let it load all the startup programs before you start again. There may be a program running on your computer that is taking a lot of server power, which is upsetting the connection.
Step 7: If the problem still hasn’t been fixed, then try another computer and see if it works. (Only use a computer that you trust hasn’t been compromised.)
*If the problem still has not been fixed, then you will need to use a more advanced guide that is specific to your operating system, that can be found below.

Additional Steps to fixing errors:

We will look at some additional fixes on Windows and Mac Operating systems.

❗️ ❗️ Make sure your Ledger Live is up to date ❗️ ❗️

**Download Ledger Live here**

Windows:

Step 1: Right-click on the Ledger application and select “Run as administrator.”
Step 2: Now go to Windows > Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Run the Troubleshooter.
Step 3: Click “Apply this fix.”
Step 4: Repeat these actions for the other USB composite device errors and then restart your PC.
Step 5: Now open your control panel and clicking on “Devices and printers.”
Step 6: You will see Nano S as an option, double click it, and then click on the hardware tab.

You can select any of the options below.
#1 Edit the file that can be found under /etc/udev/rules.d/20-hw1.rules file by adding the OWNER=”user” parameter to each line, where user is your Linux username.
Then reload the rules as follows:
udevadm trigger
udevadm control --reload-rules
If your device is still not connecting properly then you will need to continue to the next section below.

KERNEL=="hidraw
", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2c97"
KERNEL=="hidraw
", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2581"
Then reload the rules:
udevadm trigger
udevadm control --reload-rules
#3
If you are on Arch Linux, you can try the following rules:
/etc/udev/rules.d/20-hw1.rules
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2581", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1b7c", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess", TAG+="udev-acl"

SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2c97", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0000", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess", TAG+="udev-acl"
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2c97", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0001", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess", TAG+="udev-acl"
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2c97", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0004", MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess", TAG+="udev-acl"
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="2c97", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1011", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"
